Over the last few years, incidences of Violent Radicalisation and Extremism have created anxiety in several nations in Africa and the world at large. Religion has in some ways been misused to justify some of the violent actions, and in other ways simply implicated or made an ally. The challenges of violent Radicalisation and Violent Extremism as it is well known are not peculiar to the African region alone but a worldwide issue that have affected many people around the world. It has created a lot of tension and suspicion between Christians and Muslims in a number of regions and countries in a manner that threatens peace and peaceful coexistence between these two major religions in Africa and the world.

This tensions and suspicions between the two religions, we believe can be addressed when religious communities are mobilized to confront and address the challenges together.

PROCMURA believes that peace and development are twins. Where there is no peace there can be no development and where there is no environmentally friendly development there can be no sustainable peace. Peace we reckon is not something that one can wish for with folded arms and have it, but that which society have to work for.

In the context of Africa, it is well known that conflicts and situations of non-peace have many causes. Africa as a religious continent where Christianity and Islam wield the largest following, have to ensure that the two religious groups work towards intra and inter religious peace and peaceful coexistence and thereby cooperate to work towards conflict prevention/transformation and promotion of peace and reconciliation within the wider society.

The emerging issue of Violent Radicalization and Violent Extremism is a growing phenomenon which PROCMURA has taken cognizance of. In the past few years, PROCMURA has worked in several African countries with the objective of promoting peace, peaceful coexistence and creating conditions for the prevention and growth of Violent Radicalization and Violent Extremism in communities.

The peaceful campaign walk is a national campaign that will bring together Christians and Muslims to create awareness on the prevention of Violent Radicalization and Violent Extremism for peace and development in Kenya. More than 5,000 people are targeted for the walk, and public lecture on the thematic area. Special prayers will be offered in Churches and Mosques for the affected and for the prevention of such heinous acts of violence.

The peaceful Campaign to be held on the International Day of Peace marks the first national action oriented project in Kenya, which calls on all Christians and Muslims to join hands in building a peaceful society, being mindful that if there is no peace between Christians and Muslims in the world, in Africa and in this particular case in Kenya, there can be no peace. We invite you to join us and the rest of the world in commemorating the 2018 International Day of Peace.
